With eyes on the gulf right now.. it looks like Gustav might be headed more west. If you have friends in the New Orleans or ajacent areas.. I have a a great website from NOAA...:
Ecowatch.ncddc.noaa.gov/c-side.
This site provides direct linkage to local, state, and federal information as it pertains to severe weather preparation and monitoring across the Gulf of Mexico coastal region.
Please forward this info to anyone along the gulf coast.

The surface of the sun burns approximatley 10,000 degrees whereas the arc flash can heat the air to temperatures as high as 35,000 degrees. Serious burns are not uncommon even at a distances of 10 feet and fatal at a few feet. a report compiled by Capelli-Schellpfeffer, Inc., estimates that 5 to 10 arc flash explosions happen in the U.S. every day, resulting in 1 -2 deaths per day. Food for thought.

For those of you along the Gulf Coast, or those who have interests thereof, all eyes should be on Gustav.
There are several sites that work well with keeping tabs on the latest. weatherunderground.com is great, especially for checking out the latest computer models. Another model to keep tabs on weather related issues is http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/full_loop.php. Of course you all know about Weather.com as well as keeping abreast of your local weather channels.
As of the…

Free safety websites are great. My first impressions for this one is" SWEET". Looks like lots of cool stuff. Free resources are great when you operate on a very small safety budget.

Can you imagine any occupation that does not make use of the hand? Hands are so important because of their utility. They provide us with the dexterity needed to perform most daily activities. In fact, hands, as tools, are so versatile and can perform many intricate functions more than any single known tool developed by mankind.
Hand injuries account for 80% of all occupational injuries. This is because the hands are engaged in almost all activities on the job.
There are many…

I'm so excited about this community taking off - I really want to see it succeed. But there's only so much I can contribute personally to a safety community, since I work at a desk 9 to 5 and my biggest safety concern at work is not getting paper cuts. However, in my free time after work and on weekends, I am all about personal protective equipment and safety. Can you guess why?

That's right, because I ride. Two years ago, after being an…

This is a safety article i wrote for my company and should be published this fall in a Telecommunications Cooperative Magazine. Hope you all can relate and use it with your employees to beware of the tiger.
"Safety rules are a nuisance. They restrict you from doing what you want to do the way you want to do it." "The person who wrote safety rules must have been an old fuddy-duddy who couldn't stand to see people having fun!" "
What you just read or what you might think…

Great Safety Champions in Business and Unions impact our lives. Probably the best and most exciting innovation that I have seen was in Kansas City in the auto sector.
The new concept came as a result of a death of a young man hit by forklift. Both management and union members joined forces to find a solution. A magnetic track was created that allowed car products to be carried from the plant floor to the truck bays.
There was an immediate elimination of the forklifts. The air…
