OSHA needs some John Wayne style true grit

How many articles do I read every day that OSHA is fining some big name industry, to what end. That’s like you or I getting a parking ticket. Put the paltry payment in the quick pay envelope and never worry about it again, or don’t pay the fine and the city or county will take the next ten years to track you down, if they do at all. The case goes to court and OSHA backs down like a cowering pup. I was once part of the big name industry and went through a double handful of OSHA inspections. The…See More

Wade, I like the way you think! Although John Wayne riding in is outdated and many younger workers would scratch their heads wondering who that is! Bu that aside what you put across is all too real; OHSA NEEDS TO ENFORCE THE STANDARDS! The reason for OSHAdministration being here is to regulate employers using workers for labor. they are here and thier enforcement is parallel to how Dodge City was before Marshall Dillon came to town. Without OSHA and other leading Safety Organizations, i.e.: NFPA, increased fatalities and serious injuries would be a staggering number. OSHA has done a great job within the past 25 years, but now they need to show more teeth. What I say may never happen to the extent it should because of lobbying, interests, manipulation, etc, but  OSHA should gear towards a stronger enforcement attitude similar to policing, (of course mindful of the Constitution, Common Law, and common sense!) Recently OSHA fines have increase quite a bit. Since the increase I have other safety professional have wrote that the increased fines will cause employers to think twice of how they maintain the safety of their employees. I suppose the future stats will speak for them!

Hello, Wade! It is great to have you along on the Safety Community ride. I am in Niceville, Florida now, for about a year. After, I'll return to my home in Hawai'i. I'm here for family reasons, in the meantime, I stay current with Safety issues, look for better positions is construction and General Industry, and continue working on my Blog and Website ideas. It is great to be connected with you as a Safety Community participant and Safety Colleague, and I will look forward to future communication with you. Have a good one, and be safe!
