Metal Working Fluids and Bacteria

So I"m checking the water fountains in our shop for bacteria. I used a dip slide that incubates in 24 hours to see if they need to be disinfected.

There are two fountains and I had three slides in my pocket so I dipped one in the band saw cutting lubricant. A white water based metal working fluid (MWF).

I had just finished a safety course on MWF's and became aware that bacteria can grow in it. (I really coud not believe bacteria would be able to survive in the stuff.)

I could not resist check… Continue

Suiting Up for an Acid bath

The next step was to remove the top portion of the containment to facilitate rinsing down the hoppers. Notice the man lift has also been covered in plastic and the operator is fully protected.

Safety on a Shoe string

Free safety websites are great. My first impressions for this one is" SWEET". Looks like lots of cool stuff. Free resources are great when you operate on a very small safety budget.

Troy, My compliments. While I'm retired and have been since the beginning of 2004 and do not involve myself in professional safety matters like I did when employed, my son Sean is following in my footsteps in the industry. While I still stay connected to some valued friends who continue their careers in both safety and insurance, if I can be of any help towards adding insight to those starting out, I'd be proud to offer any help they might seek.

It looks like a great place to see other people’s perspectives on safety from their industry and position. Regs are regs and we each interpret and apply them differently. The more views we have the better we can see to make a difference in someone’s life.

I thank you for your invitation. I look forward to discovering, learning, growing and sharing you with you so we can make a difference.

Thanks Jeff

red exit lights vs green exit lights

I am wanting to know  if I should I buy red exit signs or green exit signs? Does OSHA care? Is there one that is more accepted in the mechanic industry? Thanks Mary
