Tool Box Talks

Our Pipe Mill has been conducting hour long toolbox talks on a monthly basis for 30 years. In two weeks the plan is to eliminate these talks in favor of a 5 min. TailGate talk at the beginning of each shift. My thought is that this TailGate talk would be a great addition to our long established program, but not a replacement. Thanks, glad you're interested!  The website is already up, it's at www.SafetyEcho.com.  There are still a lot more products to add, plus I'm tweaking the design, but there are about 1,000 safety products already on there.

Hey Rick! I agree with you. This is a very bad move. My experience has been that labor does not trust mabagement. This being a union shop makes it even worse. I'm thinking that the best approach is by speaking their language. Management speaks the language of finance. By showing them the return on investment by developing an employee created safety culture in the end will cost them less money, time, and headache. You may want to find other organizations in your industry that have excellent safety records, compare them to your organization, and show the ROI in that way.
