Can anybody please give me a straight up answer on an exact date the new 2007 ASME B30.5 regulations take effect. Also when osha's C-DAC goes in effect. Every crane site and magazine i read praises the arrival of these but nobody even mentions a date of when they go into effect. One more thing, when does osha make it mandatory for crane signal persons to be certified by a third party to signal a crane? I sure hope soon. It's getting worse every day on these jobs.

Jason, this is the beginning of what Cal-OSHA has already implemented with the NCCO Crane operators certificates and requirement of certified riggers in California. I’m sure they’ll be a lot more changes and requirement to come. I recommend taking a look at the CICB New Letter @ http://www.cicb.com/news/documents/NationalNewsletterMay2008IndvPag...

And of course purchase a copy of ANSE B30-5 2007 and review it your self so you’ll know how to answer those tough question.

Good Luck, Ray
I am not sure on the ASME B30.5 but I attended a meeting of Crane Owners in Texas a few weeks ago and we were told that the C-DAC rules and regs will go into effect 90 days after August 9, 2010. As for the signal persons, I am pretty sure those are addressed in the C-DAC rules and regs. You can get the whole thing on the osha website where it addresses the specifics.
DATES: This final rule will become effective November 8, 2010. This is from the U.S Federal Register. The website is http://www.thefederalregister.com/d.p/2010-08-09-2010-17818

Jason, I really believe they have no clue! We suffer for it. I was just at the ASME site and found nothing concrete.

My Personal Safety Quotes that I use in conferences and management training programs

Over the years I have come up with several of my own safety and leadership quotations that I have used in either in conferences, meetings or training sessions.  Sometimes you can say just a few words and the message sticks with people for the rest of their lives.   I have put below a few of my favourites that I have had success with when trying to make people accept their responsibilities and actual become actual leaders. …See More
