Has anyone used Infrared Thermography Technology as an adjunct to their Combustible Dust Program. We started using it and it highlighted potential and immediate electrical hazards that could be the ignition source for a C-Dust Explosion. OSHA was just out at one of our facilities and they saw the company generated report and flipped out. The OSHA Consultation guy wanted a copy so he could recommend it at other facilities. It's a relatively inexpensive technology that really pinpoints potential electrical shorts and recommends priority of repairs to prevent problems.

Here is the link to the company we use: http://infraredtesting.com/pictures2.html
I'm sure other companies in other areas are using similar technology.

Thanks Andy, that is very interesting. We have the infrared thermography conducted for electrical program here. Looking at the pictures, how do you know the problem areas for C-dust?
Technically, the problems aren't "FOR" C-Dust. But if there area areas that accumulate more dust, immediately repairing "Hot Spots" in those areas greatly reduce the likelihood of an ignition source.
Andy, We have used thermal guns to pinpoint and read temperatures, but this is a great idea. I can see great benefit for my customers from this technology, thanks for posting! -Jeff Nichols http://industrialfireprevention.blogspot.com/
Excerpt from a webinar that I thought I'd share Fascinating topic. Thanks for sharing Andy.

Modern Thermography for Facility Management

Is it possible to reduce the risk of electrically induced fires by 50% and reduce the cost of motor breakdown's and downtime?

This webinar will shed some light over a solution for preventive maintenance and fault identification in industrial applications as tool for cost saving/avoidance and performance improvement.

Learn how new technology which combines the traditional IR-image with a visual image in a single image simplifies the understanding of Thermography, and opens up the technology to all maintenance engineers. IR- Fusion ® images will show facility managers energy losses in the building envelope, in HVAC conducts and equipment, important information needed to reach a better energy efficiency.

My Personal Safety Quotes that I use in conferences and management training programs

Over the years I have come up with several of my own safety and leadership quotations that I have used in either in conferences, meetings or training sessions.  Sometimes you can say just a few words and the message sticks with people for the rest of their lives.   I have put below a few of my favourites that I have had success with when trying to make people accept their responsibilities and actual become actual leaders. …See More
