Hi Dawn,
I'm sure that you have people at your facility who use fall protection and you should go to my page and see our Fall Distance Comparison which I use to re-educate people about fall protection and misconceptions that need to be cleared up. Feel free to use this document in your newsletter. If you have questions I'd be happy to clarify anything for you. If you'd like other information just ask.

Mark, I used that info in my maintenance department. Freaked them all out! Thanks for the graphics - It definitely helped me get my point across to them!

How about cross word puzzles, cartoons, what's 'wrong with this picture?' type things to create interest?

Attention getting....you now have to compete with all the major media and video intrusions on a daily basis that are delivered at such high frequency that static newsletters can't compete with....high shock value followed up with some pertinent discussion, supportive facts and direct interaction and buy-in from your audience works well with trades people in the field who are always on deadline or distracted. Nothing is 100%, but repetition and variety breaks down resistance to change over time. Keep at it. Anyone who wants you to believe that they can solve your safety issues overnight with some magical simple solution is generally full of it.
Some mildly annoying anti-smoking posters are attached.....let me know if you need any tool box discussion posters.

Dawn, how long are your newsletters? I usually write a safety article once every quarter for ours and add a safety trivia quiz with prizes to the top 5 winners. Gets more participation and they actually now have started reading and commenting on them.

Dawn,
May be you could add the accident statistics, the near misses and actions taken to avoid any future incidences, some elements of OSHA that is applicable to the nature of work in your facility and share the incidents that had occured in the past at your facility so that those who are new can have an idea about the safety level at your facility

You know I did have some short one page "preparedness" type tool box talks as well on the website....the idea was that the safety training at work also was applicable to home use by the employee or it could be shared with other family members. Certainly does get discussions going as everyone weants to let you know how prepared they are.....or not. So much material to cover so little time....let me know if that could work for you....those smoking posters were gross ......I will never smoke one but one of these smelly pots would be a gold mine for an alcoholic street person.....I have seen it.

Try adding, some funnies to it with a safety bias or even cartoons. and another possibility that often works quite well is a crossword or even a word puzzle using safety as a theme. All thinks to keep people thinking.

Dawn. My suggestion has been mentioned already. Aside from putting the winning lottery numbers on your newsletter, there are few things that will make people read them. I keep it to one page (three paragraphs). First is the safety topic for the month. Second is the recipient of the safety awards. Thirdly, I share an up to date story from the web like the top ten OSHA citations, most frequent causes of death, etc. At one time I started putting a one-question safety quiz. Anyone who got it correct would be mentioned in the next newsletter. Only one person responded.

Hi, Dawn,

We've done a few things with our newsletters to garner more readership and engagement. 1. We have a section that features the most commented on stories of the week/month with a couple of comments from each story. 2. We started doing a Safety/Health 'Tip of the Week/Month', which is usually a few sentences long. 3. We started doing a Tweet of the day to increase our Twitter following and get more people to share our news stories.

Any of these three can be easily incorporated into the newsletter and can be about health or safety.
